About the Artist

The founder of Mamie Ashes was born with a unique fascination for color and balance.   Lee, is a multimedia artist.

She began her artist’s career as a grade five student using molds and plaster that created animals.  She then painted  and embellished these figurines  with her mother’s cast - off jewelry . This hobby made excellent gifts that her fellow students could afford.  This was her first endeavor as an artist.

Lee’s mother was a ribbon- winning artist in her own right and a strong influence on Lee.   As a young person, Lee watched her Mother painting impressive  pictures  which influenced her to  pick up the brush.  She works in oil and acrylic media even today.

Seven years ago she went into her first bead store and almost before arriving back home, loved making beads.  Lee,  has now worked with semi-precious stones, brass, silver, copper, glass,  polymer clay ,clay silver and wire.
